North of the Border

This time I'm looking at radio listening in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

As usual I need to issue the caveat that, unlike London where all of the major stations share the same TSA and make it possible to do a straight comparison, other major markets are not so favourable.  The citys' main stations all  have different-sized, TSAs, while Real and Galaxy (now Capital) are regionals covering the Central Belt.

What I have done, therefore, is to take a look at the general performance of stations within the TSAs of Clyde 1 and Forth One in order to make a proper like-with-like comparison.

Because of this I'm unable to do the same hourly breakdown as for London, so it's by 'dayparts' instead.

It's interesting to see how both Glasgow and Edinburgh have changed over the past 12 months. Real Radio Scotland, which has been a key performer been a real (sorry!) rival to Clyde and Forth's dominance over the past few years, appears to have gone off the boil with a large drop in market share year on year.  Meanwhile as Galaxy morphs into Capital that station appears to be on the up. In Edinburgh while Forth One has dropped, its AM partner Forth 2 has increased share.

(Note: I've included 96.3 Rock Radio in Glasgow's charts, although this station does not cover the full Clyde TSA)

  1. Just to let you know, the Glasgow reach chart is missing its X-axis.

(Also, I'm impressed that Clyde 1 are still on top at breakfast, given that George Bowie appears to have essentially the patter for the last ten years..)
